Diamonds and Other Gems

I’m always amazed at the security at the Oscars. In my eyes, the beautiful mortal people don’t hold a candle to the eternal gems they wear. The gems will be displayed a thousand years from now, and the wearer might be mentioned in a footnote if they’re lucky. Each celebrity has a guard watching out for the gems. I wonder if the person matters as much as the gems to them.

On that note, these gems appear to be more critical than our National Capital and its representatives. Why do I say this? Insurance companies seem to take more care and interest in their preservation. We do the same for our national information. Technology Security certifications have names and hierarchies associated with the level of access an individual can observe or manipulate. All hell rains down should it be breached. In fact, It’s a common thread throughout the U.S. Government.

When I go onto a U.S. Military base, I’m required to present an I.D. If I don’t and I run the gate, I get shot. Maybe, between the eyes. If I grabbed a Henry Winston necklace off of one of the celebrities during the Oscars, if I were lucky, I’d be shot in the leg, but they might kill me too. Why didn’t that happen at the Capitol Building on January 6th? After all, the military is meant to protect the people, and the Capital is a representation of the people. Shouldn’t it be afforded the same level of security?

We don’t want the military guarding the Capitol, but we do need a presence from every State in the Union because each one has a vested interest in its protection. But politics are once again overshadowing the lack of action on January 6th. Whether you are Left or Right, I hope we can all agree that something is wrong here. Every State should be infuriated that they did not have a representation in its protection. So why aren’t we all screaming?

The police are a local representation and are often distracted by other local issues. Isn’t it time that we consider a national guard mandatory duty from each State? Maybe a three-year term? Because our Congress and the Capitol are our national Gem, I think we need to address it immediately. I would love to hear your opinions.
