Regarding Will Smith
When I was a teen, if I got a zit, I thought I was hiding it by putting a small bandaid on it. But, like most teens, I felt absolutely everyone was looking at it. And if they were, that would tarnish me irreparably in the eyes of everyone. Okay, maybe not everyone. I guess I thought I was the center of the universe.
Celebrities seem to carry this thought pattern throughout their lives. The Hollywood vortex of publicity cultivates it. They’re so self-involved that they don’t realize how much most of us don’t give a shit what they do. The public’s passing comments and sneers are distractions from their everyday lives. An example is Will Smith. He released a video today trying to rectify the “Oscar Slap” of the deserving Chris Rock. I enjoy Rock’s work, but what he said was pretty nasty. He went too far.
Smith is under the impression that the world wants a grand gesture from him and that it’s his role to be a model citizen for the planet. And, for some reason, he’s not allowed to act or be like the rest of us mortals. So now he is groveling publicly to appease the Rock family, the masses, and that faux ethereal universe called Hollywood.
Will Smith, maybe you should read on.
- Hollywood is full of scumbags like Weinstein. You don’t need their adoration. What you have is a job that enables you the freedom to live a comfortable life and get hellos from people that will be eaten by the same worms as you someday.
- You don’t owe the world anything, but you did take an oath to honor and protect your wife. I think you displayed your willingness to do just that! That is, after all, your priority.
- We enjoy your movies, but trust me, we don’t think about every mistake you’ve made throughout your life.
- Chris Rock always says some crazy things, and he’s hilarious most of the time. But, unfortunately, what he said was nasty, even for him. Most everyone would agree that he’s put it out there and verbally attacked throughout his entire career. He’s made a fortune doing it. I have no doubt he’s hurt a lot of people. And most of them forgive him. After all, forgive if you want to be forgiven.
- You did slap the man. Remember, only apologize once. The more you apologize, the wounded individual feels exponentially entitled.
- Yes, I’ll still enjoy your movies if they’re good.
Chris Rock, read on.
- That slap was humiliating. Shit happens. Forgive if you want to be forgiven. I’m pretty sure your words have hurt most people who have listened to your comedy at one point or another. Consider that slap something from all of humanity. You had to pay sooner or later! Don’t you agree?
- Yes, I’ll still enjoy your comedy if it’s funny.
And yes, I’m writing this, and it may seem like I, as part of the public, do care what you do. However, the truth is that I’ve committed to myself to write something daily and couldn’t think of anything until your video popped up in an unrelated Google search. Thanks!
