As a child, I was always inquisitive. There was nothing that I couldn’t find an interest in, and it made me a bit of a nuisance because I’d want to know what everything was meant for and how I could use it. On the flip side, it made the entire world a babysitter. You could put me in a box, and I would find something to do. This curiosity can be a blessing and a curse because I would always find a way to move on to the next project once the current one became dull. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I would find satisfaction in completing a task.
I’ve found that the majority of the people I enjoy most in life are creative and critical thinkers. People with opposing talents, like an artist who’s also an architect, a surgeon who’s also a painter, or a mathematician who plays the trumpet. The more interests a person has, the more interesting they become. That being said, this kind of individual can have a painful side. Creative thinkers often verbalize thoughts in a quest to resolve problems. In so doing, the surrounding myopic thinkers hear them but can fall victim to the spin doctors who use the words to manipulate them and sway their opinions. A good example is Elon Musk.
Elon Musk is undoubtedly a creative thinker. His opinions may appear erratic and sometimes contrary to a previously vocalized belief, making him seem somewhat flakey, but he’s generous with his thoughts. I can only guess, but he appears to share them, hoping to create peace and understanding of a situation. Like most creative thinkers, knowing oneself is highly important, and there’s a hopeful, if not unrealistic, expectation that the rest of the world will do the same by being forthright about an opinion. Because of these traits, Musk often gets spun by the media and turned into the monster of the moment. However, there’s much truth in his words. Whether we like it or not, sugarcoating the world doesn’t make problems disappear. The question is, how much truth can the world handle when much of it is looking for a fight? I believe that Musk, in his way, is trying to avoid a bloody conflict. He may not see that Mother Nature has tweaked us for self-pruning. He seems to believe that if he can assist people with seeing their flaws and how they’re participating in their stereotyping, we can find a road to peace. Maybe he’s right, but unfortunately, the myopics and their predatory spinners will always paint him into a corner and villainize his endeavors.
So, I support another creative mind under attack for verbalizing thoughts. Yes, words are powerful, and Musk’s voice carries weight in the world, and that can be very frightening; however, the media plays an equally terrifying role by amplifying his thoughts and twisting them to serve political objectives. So, now more than ever, it’s important to embrace individuality. Think for yourself, and weigh the words of everyone around you. Take what you find relevant and weave your opinions into your own fabric, then trash the remaining threads. And remember, the same worms eat celebrities as everyone else. Their opinion is just one of many, and they are no more important than you are on this spinning rock of ours!
